Manchester United v Newcastle United at Old Trafford! United looking to make it three wins in a row in the EPL. Not an easy game but historically United have done well in the tie at home. We can see progression in United’s play over the last 4 games with their best game coming in midweek in the Champions League qualifier vs Club Brugges. The lineup from the start of the season has been pretty consistent baring the odd change. I’m expecting LVG to field the same team as in midweek. It’s possible that Bastian Schweinsteiger may start in place of Michael Carrick but we’ll only know for sure an hour before the game. Bastian has been working on his match fitness and the time isn’t far when he starts games.
Untied will be sticking to their preferred 4-2-3-1 formation. The only disappointment in this formation so far has been the one upfront, Wayne Rooney. He looked absolutely off the boil in the first two games, however he did look more threatening against Brugges. For United to have a successful season Rooney will need to impact games and score goals. This hasn’t been the case thus far hence a cry for a top striker to ease the pressure and assist in the burden of goal scoring. Whether that striker is bought is yet to be known but till then we need the Captain to hit his stride in front of goal!
Hoping to see another performance from the new No.7. He was on fire in the Champions League and will need to put in that level of performances week in week out to truly become a legend of the club. He has all the potential to do so but being the first season in a new league it might to asking too much of Memphis.
Focus should go back to the on field game after the shocking disaster off the field with the Pedro transfer saga. United messed up there but will have to move on and close that chapter as it’s now history. No point on dwelling on the past.
So another key game for United and another must win! My prediction is a 2-0 win! Glory, Glory Man United!
