Specialist In Failure Meets Great Character. A total mismatch on paper, with Arsenal ready to take on Liverpool tonight at the Emirates. Liverpool are one of only two teams, along with Manchester City to have a 100% record so far this season, with two clinical performances, a total of 6 points from as many available and with not even a single goal conceded. On the other hand, Arsenal are languishing in the bottom half of the league table, a point to the good of the relegation battle, with just 3 points bagged from their opening two games. In their first match, they entertained London rivals West Ham at home, were thrashed 2-0, and ended up making their oppositions look like Bayern Munich. Much to the surprise of the audience, a 16-year old Reece Oxford bossed the game and had Mesut Ozil in his back pocket throughout and to no one’s surprise anymore, that 16-year old is known as Andrea Pirlo among his friends. The signing of the season, Petr Cech, was to be blamed for both of West Ham’s goals. He was probably sent in on a mission by Jose Mourinho. Even, the Hammers keepers Adrian was seen rubbing his eyes in shock at the end of the game. He even went on to shake hands with Petr Cech and probably asked if he really was the former-Chelsea keeper or QPR’s Rob Green.
In the second match, Arsenal made a trip to Selhurst Park to face the in-form Crystal Palace, who had three more points than Arsenal had and had scored 3 more goals than Arsenal managed in their opening encounter with the Hammers. The result came out exactly opposite to what most experts had predicted. Arsenal caused the first major upset of the season, as they edged ‘fourth place’ Palace 2-1, courtesy of a fluke goal by Olivier Giroud, who tried to head the ball, but ended up volleying it into the back of the net. His celebration made it clear to us even he was shocked after knowing he had actually scored. The second goal for Arsenal was scored by Palace’s Damien Delaney, because no Arsenal player was interested in scoring one himself or let’s just say they were not capable of scoring one.
Tonight, Arsenal are up against a team, known for showing great character in every match they play. A team with 5 Champions League titles more than their opponents. Blessed with the likes of Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino, Philipe Coutinho and Adam Lallana, Liverpool would be looking to build on their top-notch performances and take this match against relegation battlers Arsenal as just another one in the league. Half a dozen goals scored by Liverpool won’t be surprising and even an 8-2 Liverpool win wouldn’t raise any eyebrows for Arsenal are immune to such thrashings. Ahead of the game, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has selection dilemma as most of his players didn’t show up to the training ground earlier this week and were instead found on hospital beds, nursing new injuries. It will be interesting to see if Arsene manages to bring out 14 players to the ground tonight (11 starting and 3 subs). Provided Liverpool play up to their potential tonight and show great character, Arsene Wenger could already be focusing on playing Championship Football next season.
You’ll never walk alone!!!!!
