Manchester United aiming to secure a place in the Champions League

By Imran Kardar

It has been a long wait for Manchester United fans but the wait could be over when Untied take on Club Brugges in the second leg of the European qualifier to book their place in the Champions League! After winning the first leg at Old Trafford by three goals to one United are sitting pretty and looking odds on to qualify. However, this is the Champions League and anything can happen. Just ask AC Milan who were sitting pretty at half time in a Champions League final not too long ago with a three goal lead against Liverpool and just had 45 minutes between them and the title. And we all know how that one turned out! So United cannot take anything for granted. A job has to be done and everyone expects them to do it.

Moving on to the team and lineup. This is a tough one for LVG. He could do with a bit of rotation for this game and freshen things up. Formation is most likely to remain the same with a 4-2-3-1. Romero should be in goal as only he and Johnstone are in the squad for the game. I don’t expect any changes to the defense either. Now on to the two in midfield. LVG will be tempted to change things here and he has many choices to make. Does he bring in Carrick and take Schweinsteiger out? Does he give Herrera a go? I would go with Schneiderlin and Herrera in the midfield. There could be some chopping and changing in the attacking three as well. Memphis might be given a rest and that would allow Young back wide left. The No.10 is an interesting position. I don’t think Januzaj will play this game and that could lead to Fellaini starting as the No.10. However, LVG also has an option to start Rooney there with Chicharito up top. Valencia should play wide right in this game but then that means United lose the creativity of the little Spaniard Mata. So as you can see LVG has plenty of choices to make. He might just go in with exactly the same team as the one that played on the weekend. He can be unpredictable like that.

This is a big game for Untied no doubt but this is also a huge game for Rooney. He needs a goal. He needs to score and get that confidence back. Untied have a tricky match away to Swansea in the league on the weekend and it’ll do them good to get Rooney back scoring. LVG should shuffle the pack and get more game time for Fellaini, Herrera and Chicharito so that when they come on in league games they can have a greater impact.

My prediction is a 2-0 United win and I’ll go step ahead and predict that one of the scorers will be Wayne Rooney! Glory, Glory, Man United!
