Not so fast my friend! As Lee Corso would say. For those of us ready to hand the trophy to Manchester City, we now have a race. Things can turn quickly and Man City is finding that out. They were cruising along with a perfect start to the season with a 5-0-0 start and no goals allowed and then got a break when Vincent Kompany was not called for a foul and scored on a corner kick-header to give the Citizens a 1-0 lead in their Champions League match at home against Juventus.
And now four goals later allowed and City is left wondering not only how they will make it out of Group Play in the Champions League but also how long they will stay on top of the Premier League table. Injuries are mounting for Man City with Kompany going out moments after his goal against Juventus. He was sorely missed against West Ham when corner after corner for City amounted to zero.
Without Silva and at times Sterling lately, City is struggling to get the ball in the net even when it is open. We’ve seen Navas and Aguero make gorgeous moves past goalkeepers only to shoot wide of the net in recent games, and the West ham game was another one.
At one point City had possession over 70% of the game, had 22 shot to 5 advantage and shots on goal were 7-2 in their favor and yet they trailed 2-1. With the loss, West Ham now trails them by only three points and they still must play them at their place.
Tell City to bring the Cup back.
