Not many thought that Ipswich would cause United a problem at Old Trafford in the Capital One Cup. But anything can happen in football, just last season MK Dons thrashed the Red Devils and dumped them out of the same competition. Thankfully United fans, there was no repeat of that disastrous night this time round.
United were in control of the game throughout the 90 mins. Ipswich was hardly a threat to United. The opening goal came via an absolutely brilliant pass from Blind from centre back through the midfield to Wayne Rooney, who took the pass down brilliantly as well and slotted it past the keeper. Wazza back to scoring ways, hopefully he’ll manage to get one over the weekend in the EPL. You can see what LVG means when he says that he likes left footed Blind at centre back as he can build up play and that kind of pass in a close game can be the difference between victory and defeat.
The second goal came through a free kick beauty by Andreas Pereira! Hadn’t seen a United player score one from a free kick in a while! It was Pereira’s first goal for United in his full debut. I like the look of this kid. He can play in a variety of positions upfront and is great on the ball, rarely misplaces a pass and has trickery that I guess every Brazilian is born with! He could be a very useful player this season and I hope that LVG gives him more chances in the team.
United scored their third and final goal when Depay chested down a long ball from Schweinsteiger to the feet of Martial who took the ball in his stride, went past the defender and slotted the ball past the keeper. Another goal for the teenager making it 4 in 4 for United! What a brilliant start to his career and season. I just hope that he keeps this going!
The game finished 3-0 and it was a routine win for United. It was good run out for Valencia and Young at right and left back. They might keep their places for the weekend game v Sunderland as Darmian has had a couple of average games and Rojo is out injured. It was also a great game for Pereira. Probably man of the match level performance from him. He was a constant threat and moved the ball around well. The Ipswich defense looked jittery with him on the ball. And he got a great goal on the night. Happy for the lad and hope he gets some more game time. It was also another solid performance from Bastian in the midfield. His passing was top notch as always and he controlled the game with effortless ease. Already a very important player for United.
Next up for United in the cup will be Middleborough at home. A very favorable draw that United should manage easily. Glory, Glory, Man United!
