Manchester City left Germany with three points, but it was far from a convincing performance. It looked like recent results are really stuck in the players’ head. Defense was all over the place and despite the fact that Gladbach’s penalty was a bit questionable, the Germans could have easily been two or three nil up in the first half. The only positive for City in the performance of Joe Hart, but he needs to get more protection from his defenders. Fernandinho was lunging back and forth and was lucky not to concede another penalty, Demichelis definitely looks past his best and I am not convinced Mangala and Otamendi can carry out a season, despite the fact their joint transfer price is similar to what a blockbuster Hollywood movie makes in the box office. City need Kompany, Silva and Toure fit and back to their best, otherwise their fans’ joy will be short-lived. They were under the cosh for big periods in the game last night, couldn’t handle the opponent’s desire and guile, and were definitely humbled by a rocking atmosphere at the Borussia-Park stadium. Pellegrini needs to rally his team quickly and give a flying performance at the weekend against Newcastle, or rumors about his departure from the club may well materialize over the course of the season.
