Super Sunday: Arsenal vs Manchester United!

By Imran Kardar

A football fan couldn’t ask for a better Super Sunday line up than the one we are getting this Sunday! The day starts with the Merseyside Derby with Liverpool taking on Everton, followed by PSV v Ajax, followed by United v Arsenal, followed by Bayern v Dortmund, followed by Athletico Madrid v Real Madrid, followed by Milan v Napoli, followed by PSG v Marseille! What a lineup that it! Footballing heaven!

Well, time to focus on the big one! Arsenal vs Manchester United! The old rivalry resumes! Two teams with contrasting forms go head to head! Unite are on a high, Arsenal are on a bit of a low. Key game for both teams. United must win to keep in touch with Man City who absolutely creamed Newcastle. Arsenal must win to keep in touching distance of the top and to release a bit of pressure that has built up on the team and the manager following the successive defeats in the Champions League.

Moving on to the team news, good news for United is that they will have the services of Michael Carrick, who has proven to be a key component in this fixture in the past. They are without the services of Luke Shaw and most likely Marcos Rojo. DDG will start in goal however the defense is trickier to predict. I don’t expect changes to the winning line up from mid-week however; I have my doubt about Valencia at right back. He is found wanting too many times for anyone’s liking. Most likely who ever plays at right back will have to deal with the threat of now in-form Alexis Sanchez. Valencia can match his pace and physicality but Sanchez could easily get the better of him as well. I’ll go with Valencia, Smalling, Blind and Darmian as the back four. Though LVG could be tempted to start Phil Jones at right back.

In the middle of the park I got a feeling that LVG will go with experience and play Carrick and Schweinsteiger. Though he could easily go with one of the two paired with Morgan Schneiderlin to give them that extra steel in the middle of the park. Again a tough prediction. I’ll go with Carrick and Schneiderlin

The players in the attacking position are an easy pick. It’ll be Mata, Rooney and Memphis behind Anthony Martial. Another big game for all of them and hopefully they’ll be in their best form and push United towards victory. Again you can expect Mata and Martial to be key in the attacking line up. Both are in form and influential for Manchester United.

Arsenal is facing some problems in this game from a defensive angle with Wenger not signing a quality defender or defensive midfielder. Coquelin will be key for Arsenal however he has just returned from an injury lay off. Koscielny is reported to be out along with Flamini, Rosicky, Wilshere, Welbeck and Arteta. So defensively, Arsenal not looking too strong. If I were LVG I would put Martial against Mertesacker, get Rooney to occupy the other centre back most likely Paulista and let Martial have a field day with Per!

This could be a cracker of game and I really hope it is an entertaining one, in which Man united come out on top of course! GGMU!
