Manchester United Looking to Get Back on Track at Crystal Palace

By Imran Kardar

October is at an end and on the last day United take on Crystal Palace. After two goalless draws at Old Trafford the latter of which resulting in United being knocked out of the Capital One Cup, United will be looking to get back on track with a win at Crystal Palace. United have fared pretty well in what was thought to be a tough month with respect to the fixtures for United. It’s important that United win keeping them close to the top, with the current gap being two points. So this is a big game for United and LVG needs to get the tactics and squad selection right for this one.

DDG should be back in goal after Romero’s inconsistent performance in the Capital One Cup. With Valencia out injured Darmian should be starting at right back with Smalling and Jones at centre back. LVG has a choice between Rojo and Blind for the left back spot and on recent form he should be going with Rojo.

Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin will return to the midfield as both were rested in midweek. The problems in selection lie up top. Ronne has been hopelessly out of form this season and to continue to play him as the lone striker hasn’t done him or the team any good. Rooney works best of a main man which allows him the freedom to drop deep and get involved more. As Ashley Young got minutes under his belt post injury in the midweek game I would start him at left wing, with Rooney as the No.10 and Mata wide right. This formation will allow Martial to play where he is most dangerous and effective, as the striker. I’m sure defenders would like to see Martial on the wing than in the middle where he can use his trickery and pace to score goals. LVG must play Martial upfront.

United, who are sitting 4th in the table and 2 points off the top, will need to have a go in this game. I expect the game to start with usual ball possession and slow paced play. This is a style not too familiar with Manchester United as under Fergie it was about attack and creativity. The midfield should look to get the ball to Martial’s feet as quickly as possible. That is United’s best chance to get a goal early on.

A big game for the players and the coach. United must win this and I’m predicting a 2-1 win. GGMU!
