Lucky United Draw at Palace

By Imran Kardar

One word, woeful! Absolutely woeful! Manchester United were lucky to get a draw away to Crystal Palace in a game they could have easily lost. It was a game that United should have won to get back some of their recently lost confidence and stay close to the top of the table. They drew instead and thus a 4 point gap opened up at the top with United remaining 4th in the table.

Some of these games are getting highly frustrating for United supporters and it’s all down to the stubbornness being shown by the manager. I for one fail to understand why he keeps playing Martial at wide left when he knows that he is United’s greatest threat in front of goal. In the previous games he had a valid reason for putting Martial on the wing because Depay was hopelessly out of form and Young was injured. But now Young is back and he should have started on the left allowing Martial to play up front with Rooney behind him. Wayne Rooney had another poor game. Stuck as the lone striker he kept dropping deep to pick up the ball leaving no one for the Palace centre backs to mark. They must have had one of their easiest games in a while with the opposition striker playing in and around the half line mark!

The tempo of the game was again lackluster and United had DDG to thank for making a couple of great saves. This possession play is doing nothing for United and its time that the tactics are looked in to and changes made as this is not going to help United win the title this season. The lack of goals is LVG’s own created problem and he needs to show some flexibility and creativeness and change a few players around. Heck play Jesse Lingard wide left but bloody well get Martial up front! When he did shift things around by swapping Rooney and Martial around the 75th minute mark United looked better. Martial had a great shot blocked by the defender. However, by then it was too late and United could not manage to score.

United’s next run of games in the EPL are must win games. They face West Brom at home and Watford away. There should be no excuses not to win these games! Maybe Van Gaal needs reminding that he manages Manchester United, a club that should be tearing clubs like Palace apart and scoring goals for fun. Not being made to run all over the pitch made to look like some school boy team! He needs to change the tactics and tell the players to go Gung Ho from the word go! Forget the possession numbers just score goals!

With that the rant of a United fan comes to an end! I hope to see a far improved performance in mid-week against CSKA Moscow which again is a must win game.
