Manchester United will be itching to get going in the EPL again when they face West Brom at home in Old Trafford on Saturday. Having ended their hat-trick of 0-0 games with a 1-0 win in the Champions League, United will be looking to score and grab the 3 points that are on the table. Sitting 4th in the table and 4 points of the top a win and 3 points will be the minimum the Red Devils will be looking for.
With a few injuries and out of form players team selection might not vary too much from that in the mid-week Champions League game. DDG should be starting in goal with Young, Smalling, Blind and Rojo in the defense. Phil Jones is back and could start in place of Blind. Reports coming out say that Antonio Valencia will be requiring surgery on the ankle and if those reports are correct then United will be light in the right back area with Darmian being circumspect recently and Young not being a natural right back. Jones might need to substitute at right back in the next few games. Schneiderlin has been ill however he trained on Friday so is in contention to start. If he is fit I’d expect him to partner either Schweinsteiger or Carrick in the middle of the park. The boss could also keep the two veterans in there like he did against CSKA Moscow. My only worry with both playing together is a lack of pace and physicality on the middle of the park. Fellaini could be thrown in there to add some steal to the midfield, so LVG has options there.
I’d expect the same front line to play this game with Lingard, Rooney and Mata in behind Martial upfront. LVG should stick to that line up as it performed relatively well in the previous game. How United could do with an in form Memphis Depay right about now! Hopefully, he will get some minutes under his belt in the game and he will gain some confidence.
With the international break around the corner, United must win this game and hope that the teams above them drop some points. City is away to Aston Villa, but since Villa is having a horrendous season I don’t expect them to win. However, if Villa manages to pull off a win then it could be just the game that turns their season around. Hoping for some dropped points there. Arsenal are at home in the North London Derby on Sunday. They usually do well against Spurs at home but again there is a possibility of some dropped points. Then there is Chelsea who are nowhere near the top so let’s not worry about them! Just to update they are away to Stoke and are odds on to lose!
The weekend fixtures look good and hopefully we will see some exciting games. My prediction for the game is a 2-0 win for United. I’ll go one further and predict the goal scorers, Rooney and Martial! GGMU!
