Manchester United pull off a Philosophical Escape

By Iftakhar Sheikh

Louis Van Gaal somehow mostly does it. His side mostly gets over the line. Probably United are the worst team in terms of attacking. As it looks like they have less ambition for the goal than for keeping possession.

The football United are playing is just so baseless. Even Paul Scholes was so frustrated a few days back he said “we don’t need to keep possession and play philosophically we need to win as well.”

Louis Van Gaal probably doesn’t care what Scholes says though. Memphis Depay opened the scoring in the 11th minute courtesy of a scintillating cross by Ander Herrera. But all we saw was philosophical play, which doesn’t matter at all if you don’t kill the game.

Despite having lower possession Watford still had 6 shots on target, same as Manchester united who had more possession. Pressure piled up till the very end and the hard work paid off in the 87th minute when Watford equalized through a penalty.

But who knew luck was in Philosophies favor as United grabbed a late second goal through an own goal by Watford. All the hard work gone in a blink and United earn a valuable three points away from home.
