The condition was critical. Even the doctors started to worry about the common diseases known as “slump in form”. The symptoms were evident but finally a positive result clears the air.
Results were not in favor of Manchester City. A loss in Europe to Juventus and a premier league defeat in their last outing were very shaky moments in City’s current campaign. A fear of third consecutive defeat was looming large. But thanks to a brilliant display by the blues against Saints, a mini crisis was averted with a much needed victory.
The possession stats proved that City were not interested in playing beautiful football or attractive football they were out there to win. City usually have high possession at home but in this game City had 47% possession only. It turned out to be more than enough.
De Bruyne opened the scoring in 9th minute through Raheem Sterlings assist. Fabian Delph opened his City account in the 21st minute via De Bruyne’s assist. Shane Long did pull one back in the 50th minute after being set up by Saido Mane. Saints were rampant yet not clinical. Kolarov put the game to bed in 70th minute against the run of play through another KDB assist.
The game ended 3-1 in favor of city to ensure that City were top of the premier league table ahead off Leicester and Manchester United.
