Fresh from their disastrous final match in the Champions League Manchester United will travel to Bournemouth to take on a team that is surely high on confidence after beating Chelsea at the Bridge last weekend. They will also have to go in to the match with an injury crisis of sorts. The list of players that are missing for this match due to injury are Darmian, Valencia, Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Shaw, Herrera and Rooney (that’s about a defense and a half along with half the striker force at United). Not to mention Bastian Schweinsteiger who misses the match due to a three match ban handed to him for retrospective action taken against him for an incident during the West Ham game. It’s funny how ‘retrospective’ action was taken for a player who was called by the referee to be given a talking too for the incident when ‘retrospective’ action is to be taken for incidents that the referee has missed. Confusing isn’t it? Well, nothing can be done now; United will have to do without him for a while.
LVG has some serious problems to address in the starting lineup when it comes to the defense. Does he bring Carrick in there to add stability and experience though that might not be easy with only Fellaini and Schneiderlin being the options in the midfield? Does he persist with youngsters in Varela and Borthwick-Jackson or bring back Young who has been out of the team for a few games and sitting on the bench and not being even brought on as a substitute to try and influence the game?! Well, this is how I would line up the defense, LVG I hope you are listening. Young, McNair, Blind and Borthwick Jackson should line up in front of DDG. The midfield should consist of Carrick and Schneiderlin. The attacking midfielders should be Lingard, Mata, and Memphis with Martial up top. Yes, I know where is the big Belgian? Start him on the bench and bring him on later to make an impact if need be. He can be played from the start in midfield along with Schneiderlin with Carrick as a central defender with McNair and Blind be pushed to left back but I would rather see Carrick in the middle to influence the game.
This is an important game for United be it an away game. We have to win at all costs! Need to stabilize the ship, need the three points and need to put on a good show. I would take a boring 1-0 but maybe the traveling fans won’t enjoy that. At this point it’s absolutely key to put the points on the table and keep pressure on the teams ahead of United. So let’s hope that the Red Devils can do just that and get back to winning ways! GGMU!
