Will The New Year Bring A New Manchester United?

By Imran Kardar

Manchester United will face Swansea in their first home game of 2016. The question everyone wants answered is that will the New Year bring a new Manchester United? The fans would really hope so! They ended 2015 with a far better performance but the match against Chelsea ended 0-0. Everyone will want the team to repeat that performance and eventually the win will come.

If I were LVG I wouldn’t make any changes to the starting lineup that played against Chelsea. So DDG should start in goal with Young, Smalling, Blind and Darmian in defense. The SCH-midfield to remain unchanged with Mata, Herrera, Martial and Rooney in attack. I can see goals in the game. Some of the lost confidence will be back after the Chelsea performance and now the team should make another step forward and ensure that the year starts on a high. This is essential if Manchester United want to reignite their title campaign. January will be a crucial month and United will need to go on a winning run to climb back to the top of the table. Easier said than done but the Red Devils are capable of doing it!

As the transfer window is now open LVG must add to the team. Firstly, I would recall Wilson, Blackett and Januzaj right away. Blackett will add much needed depth to the injury plagued defense and Wilson and Januzaj will add to United’s dull attack. Secondly, if the chance presents itself United must grab hold of Felipe Anderson. The Brazilian will add pace and trickery to the attack. It’ll be a cost transfer but one that might be needed to kick start the campaign again.

It’s difficult to get big name in January so United might need to look at the second tier, maybe a Berahino (possible on loan) or a Charlie Austin. One thing’s for sure the management will need to be a bit creative and find out of the box solutions like Fergie did all those years ago with Henrik Larsson.

So this is it, 2016! Time to get serious, time to return to winning ways and time to put in a Manchester United performance. I’m predicting a 2-0 win for United! GGMU!
